 What is Campaign Monitor

Campaign Monitor is a marketing software enabling advertisers to send personalised and segmented emails, thus building long-term relationships and gaining future leads.

A drag-and-drop builder, beautifully-designed templates and one-click access to a stock image library are just some of the features novice, and more experienced marketers will appreciate. On top of these, the platform boasts a full suite of campaign tracking analytics providing invaluable insight and actionable data.

Still, the main appeal of CM is the company’s ability to facilitate marketing automation and deliver relevant content to a huge list of subscribers in a short period of time and without the need for technical expertise.

Campaign Monitor Pricing Plans

Campaign Monitor has pricing plans for every budget.

There are three plans to choose from, the prices of which change depending on how many contacts you have on your subscriber list.

Let’s take a closer look at what these plans offer:

PlanBasic*UnlimitedPremier
Emails2500 or moreUnlimitedUnlimited
Subscribers/ Contacts500 or more500 or moreUp to 50,000
AutomationLimited to email send volumeUnlimitedUnlimited
Segmentation toolsAdvanced engagement segments
Real-time reporting analytics
email supportPriorityPremier
*The number of emails you can send per month as a Basic plan user depends on how many subscribers you have. The more emails you are allowed to send, the higher the cost.

Note: All prices are in USD, but the company accepts payments in AUD in addition to five other currencies.

There is also the option to set up a free account. While there is no limit on how long you can use the free trial, it only allows you to test some of the features and send emails to just five people.

The site also offers a pay per campaign option that only charges for the emails you send.

Should you exceed your monthly plan limits, you will be notified by the support team so you can decide if you’d rather upgrade your monthly subscription, or simply pay for the additional emails.

If you have more than 50,000 subscribers, contact the company as they have personalised plans for high volume senders.

Campaign Monitor offers some great solutions, however, prices are a bit steep, especially when compared to some of its biggest competitors who have similar but more affordable plans.

Campaign Monitor: Review of Main Features

Campaign Monitor has several features that make it one of the best and easiest to use marketing email tools

Let’s take a closer look.

Email Marketing

Currently, Campaign Monitor has over 85 responsive templates that users can personalise with the site’s handy drag-and-drop editor. Alternatively, you can design a template of your own or simply input your website’s URL and the brand colours and logos will be automatically imported.

Campaign Monitor’s templates look very professional and are perfectly scalable to any device.  What’s more, the company recently added access to a stock image library, making it even easier to introduce eye-catching images in your emails.

Finally, you can incorporate a Countdown Timer, reinforcing a sense of urgency in your emails and thus driving engagement

Like with templates, creation and customisation of email sign-up forms is unbelievably straightforward

While fonts, styles and fields are easily adjustable on sign-up forms, the same is not true for landing pages. In fact, this is one area where the company falls short, as many Campaign Monitor reviews have remarked. For more diverse styling and formatting options, take a look at GetResponse

Marketing automation

This is another feature that newbies are bound to appreciate as it takes all the work out of email marketing automation. Campaign Monitor has a drag-and-drop visual journey designer that lets you create a series of emails automatically sent when triggered by certain events. Triggers range from opens of specific emails to your subscriber’s birthday, thus enabling personalisation on a whole new level and facilitating retargeting

Best of all, there is no need to spend hours getting familiar with the interface—the flowchart-style dashboard is designed with simplicity in mind, allowing you to add steps or switch the journey off with the click of a button.

Email personalisation

Campaign Monitor can now be integrated with more than 250 apps, including Salesforce, WordPress, Shopify and AdRoll so you can connect your CRM, website and e-commerce platform without any issues.

In addition to dynamic customisable content, the platform lets you optimise send times as well—perfect for time-sensitive emails.

Email Segmentation

As with template design, Campaign Monitor’s intuitive interface makes email segmentation and personalisation incredibly straightforward.

It also provides a granular view of every interaction with your contacts, giving clear insight into they engage with your campaign.

Another good thing about Campaign Monitor is the opportunity to send emails to multiple segments at the same time, a feature missing from most of the email marketing companies out there.

Analytics

Like some of the best email marketing software, CM provides actionable insight into the performance of your campaign. This includes all the standard stats on open, click-through and bounce rates for individual campaigns, which are presented in an easy-to-overview format.

However, when it comes to A/B testing, Campaign Monitor’s functionality is basic at best.

The platform only lets you test two versions of the email, whereas other providers, such as MailChimp and Aweber, allow you to test five or more variants against each other.

On the plus side, CM recently added a link review tool that notifies you if there are broken links in your email or if a link has not been updated from a previous campaign.

Customer Support

Campaign Monitor only offers support in English in the form of:

  • E-mail support – included in all pricing plans, but prioritised in the top-tier plans
  • HelpCenter – 24/7 access to resources, FAQs, and training videos

Sadly, there is no live chat, phone support or support offered in multiple languages, which is a real disappointment as most of its rivals, like MailChimp and CleverReach, excel in this area.

Why Choose Campaign Monitor?

Campaign Monitor has a lot of things going for it, especially for novices to digital marketing who could benefit from its easy-to-use interface and wide range of attractive and responsive templates

It also has some incredibly helpful features in its arsenal, such as link review, time-zoned email delivery, and mass email automation.

Despite the many benefits of Campaign Monitor, there are some issues. A/B testing, although accurate, is very simple, whereas support options are limited. Moreover, prices can go up to $989 a month for more than 30,000 subscribers, which contrasts negatively with similar products on the market.

However, all things considered in this Campaign Monitor review, CM can be a great partner for SMBs looking for a user-friendly and visually appealing email marketing solution.

FAQs:

1. Is Campaign Monitor safe?

Yes,  it is GDPR-compliant and it employs the highest industry security standards to ensure its clients’ data is safe and protected.

2. Is the Campaign Monitor price similar to MailChimp?

Although similar, MailChimp has a free plan that includes CRM-style contact management and basic email templates. CM does not have a free plan, but it does have an unlimited free trial. However, as mentioned above in our Campaign Monitor review, the free trial is limited to sending test campaigns to five people or less.
