Two teenagers have died, and another is in hospital after a car driven by a 17-year-old girl hit a tree in southwest Victoria. 

According to police, at about 3.40 p.m. on Thursday on Harry Goods Road near Winslow, north of Warrnambool, the car “left the road and hit a tree,” according to police.

Two passengers died at the scene, a 16-year-old Warrnambool boy and a 19-year-old Mailors Flat woman.

In a life-threatening condition, the driver, a 17-year-old girl, was airlifted to The Alfred Hospital.

The cause of the incident is still being investigated, but it raises the state’s road fatality toll to 149, up to seven from the same period last year.
